5:30PM (Thursday): [PHOTOS LINK IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] The FDNY is currently fighting a blaze on Avenue R and East 34th Street. The fire is reportedly in the basement of 3417 Avenue R, and the FDNY has requested a second alarm be transmitted due to the heavy fire. It is unknown if anyone is injured, or if all occupants have been safely evacuated from the home.
A YWN photographer will be on the scene in a few moments, and we will be posting images and video.
UPDATE 5:48PM: The fire has spread to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors. Additional FDNY units have been requested two respond.
